The WDR Symphony Orchestra is designing the Federal President's benefit concert this year. The concert series, with whose proceeds are supported by social and cultural organizations, has been organized every year since 1988 - from 1988 to 2005 in Berlin and since 2006 in the federal states. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst have decided to support the Elly Heuss Knapp Foundation-German Mothers Real Realing Work in 2025. With preventive and rehabilitation measures, the mothers, fathers and caring relatives would like to strengthen their health. All tickets for the Federal President's benefit concert contain a donation for the Elly Heuss Knapp Foundation.
Musically, the concert is beating a colorful arc from Europe to the United States through various cultures this year. George Enescu brought Romanian folk music to the classical music, Maurice Ravel achieved a sensual-exotic excursion into the fairytale world of a thousand and one night with great colors. In a breathtaking way, Erich Korngold condenses a wide variety of timbres and moods in his cello concerto, which was originally composed as a Hollywood film music. The end comes from the streets of New York with Leonard Bernstein's Latin American -inspired rhythms from the "West Side Story".
The soprano Hanna-Elisabeth Müller and top cellist Maximilian Hornung can be experienced as guests of the WDR Symphony Orchestra and his chief conductor Cristian Măcelaru. Moderator Siham el-Maimouni leads through the concert. Following the concert, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst ask all concert guests for an encounter in the foyers of the Cologne Philharmonic. Drinks are served.
Fatma Said, originally announced as a soloist, very much regrets that she has to cancel the concert on April 13th due to her pregnancy and hopes that she can find a new appointment for a concert with the WDR Symphony Orchestra. The WDR Symphony Orchestra thanks Hanna-Elisabeth Müller that it takes over the soloist part in Ravel "Shéhérazade".
