Reformation, Romance & Rebellion
Melbourne Youth Orchestra conducted by Brett Kelly - Melbourne Recital Centre
Program Info: Melbourne Youth Orchestra Brett Kelly, conductor Louise Turnbull, violin
Music of romance, power, and joy, unleashed by the full forces of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra.
This concert links Romanticism across 19th, 20th and 21st centuries – from Mendelssohn’s jubilant Reformation, Miriama Young’s inventive Daughters of Elysium to Korngold’s spellbinding concerto featuring virtuosic soloist Louise Turnbull, and Shostakovich’s hymn of triumph. This concert combines ideas of romance, reformation, and rebellion in an exploration of the human condition.
Program Felix Mendelssohn – Symphony No. 5 “Reformation” Finale Miriama Young – Daughters of Elysium (2024) Erich Wolfgang Korngold – Violin Concerto, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
