John Wlliams - The Music of Star Wars
Vantaan Pops Orchestra conducted by Nick Davies - Kulttuuritalo
Program Info: John Williams' wonderful music takes listeners on an unforgettable intergalactic journey.
Star Wars is a story that has grown into a huge phenomenon, mesmerising generation after generation - but what would it be without the music of John Williams?
John Williams is one of the most respected film composers of our time. He has worked with several directing legends and scored scores for numerous blockbusters from Schindler's List to Harry Potter, Killer Shark to Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park to Saving Private Ryan.
Williams has also composed the music for all nine Star Wars films in the Skywalker saga. The first of these appeared in 1977, the last in 2019. More than twenty hours of skilful and emotionally appealing music was created in 42 years.
The evening's concert will feature the greatest hits of the Star Wars films, but also lesser-played, musically wonderful gems. A full-scale symphony orchestra is accompanied by a large choir.
Those who have watched the movies have an indelible emotional imprint on the themes of the music. The fanfare of the opening credits excites from decade to decade, and more than sixty musical character themes carry the characters and the story throughout the entire saga. The themes of Luke, Leia and Voima remind us of the events of the story, but also of what we were when we heard them for the first time. Even the slightest reference to Darth Vader's dark and harsh Imperial March makes the blood stop.
Williams' music touches on emotions that are always genuine and true. Thanks to it, we are ready to believe everything that happens in the movies. And it doesn't matter if you haven't seen Star Wars - Williams' wonderful, skilful and timeless music will take listeners on an unforgettable intergalactic journey anyway.
The concert will be conducted by Principal Conductor Nick Davies. The host is Timo Vuorensola. The concert does not show excerpts from movies, but focuses on the music itself.
