Symphonic concert
Czech National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Steven Mercury - Smetana Hall of the Municipal House (Obecnidum)
Program Info: Czech National Symphony Orchestra Steven Mercury, conductor Kristina Purple, viola
The third subscription concert of this season will be opened by Notturno Ungherese by the famous Hungarian composer Miklós Rózsa. "Notturno" generally refers to a musical form of nocturnal composition that has a melancholic or meditative character, here it is processed with distinctive Hungarian melodies and rhythms. Rózsa often combined traditional musical roots with modern techniques in his work, and this work, which reflects the author's love for Hungarian folk music, is no exception.
The work of John Williams, an American music composer, has become a matter of our hearts. He has composed music for more than a hundred films, won numerous awards, and we like to include his works in our program. This time, listeners can listen to the Czech premiere of his Concerto for Viola and Orchestra , which Williams wrote in 2009 for the American violist Cathy Basrak. This evening, Czech violist Kristina Fialová, who is praised by professional critics for her perfect technique, fiery temperament and sophisticated musical sensibility, will take on the solo part.
The conclusion of the concert will belong to Erich Wolfgang Korngold and his post-war Symphony in F major . The masterpiece of the composer, whom Gustav Mahler already described as a "musical genius" in his childhood and who, in addition to composing classical music, also composed film music, is his only completed symphony.
