Shortly after the death of his own first child, Charlie Chaplin focused on his first feature film. It became an ode to all fathers and their children. Starring alongside Chaplin, a great Jackie Coogan, who later became known as Uncle Fester in the original The Addams Family -TV series.
THE KID completely changed the genre of slapstick. The slapstick genre mainly consisted of so-called two reelers , films with a length of approximately 20 minutes. THE KID was the first feature-length slapstick, and many comedy stars like Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton quickly followed suit. This film also created a new genre, in which a serious story runs through all the slapstick jokes, which, in addition to being funny, can often also be touching or even poignant.
The Kid is a masterpiece for young and old, which you must see at least once in your life. With live musical accompaniment by Maud Nelissen, who performs her arrangement of Chaplin's beautiful film music on piano.
