Program Info: In cosmopolitan New York, two babies, twins, are adopted by two different families. Without knowing of each other's existence, Anne is raised by a bourgeois family as a distinguished young woman for a good marriage, while Fely lives in the lively Irish neighborhoods and wants nothing more than to become a dancer. Their paths cross again when Anne's stepbrother falls head over heels in love with Fely, which changes both their lives and New York forever.
Lights of Old Broadway is a wonderful comedic and romantic film with starring roles for Marion Davies as both twin sisters. The subplot about the arrival of electricity creates a beautiful play of colors in which joy, energy and wonder burst from the screen. The black and white images in combination with three different color processes (tinting, Handschiegl and Technicolor) make this film a milestone in the history of color use in film.
