Program Info: Original title: 3 Bad Men Director: John Ford Cast: Lou Tellegen, George O’Brien, Olive Borden Year: 1926 Country: United States of America Length: 92 minutes Intertitles: English Subtitles: None
Three lovable yet eccentric bandits become unlikely heroes during the Gold Rush of the 1870s. When the three outlaws want to steal some horses, they meet young Lee Carlton (Olive Borden), whose father has just been brutally murdered before her eyes. Determined to protect her, they soon find themselves up against the corrupt sheriff Layne Hunter (Lou Tellegen).
3 Bad Men, based on the novel Over the Border by Herman Whitaker, is the second and last silent western directed by John Ford, renowned for his mastery of the genre. George O’Brien, who was about to become world-famous for his role in Murnau's Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, plays Dan O’Malley and fell for Olive Borden's charms both on and off-screen.
Even more remarkable, however, is the role of Lou Tellegen. The Dutch superstar of the silent film era, hailing from Sint-Oedenrode, made his way to Hollywood in the mid 1910s, after gracing the stages of theatres in Amsterdam, Paris and London. Tellegen was known as one of the silver screen's most handsome actors, notorious for a string of affairs with international film divas. 3 Bad Men remains one of the artistic highlights of his career.
