Netherlands Silent Film Festival: Slapstick Saturday
Nederlands Filmorkest conducted by Sander Vredenborg - Parktheater
Program Info: Slapstick Saturday, the annual highlight of the Nederlands Silent Film Festival, returns to Parktheater Eindhoven.
The feature Grandma’s Boy (1922) by Harold Lloyd is the main film of this evening. A touching story about uncertainty and overcoming your fears, of course framed with a lot of humor.
Harold is a young man, who has been bullied all his life. When he finally has a date with the girl of his dreams, he is opposed by a rival suitor, who is a mean bully. When the village is terrorized by a violent drifter, Harold flees to his grandmother for shelter, ready to hide in his room forever. But grandma has a plan to cure Harold of his fears for once and for all.
The film will be live accompanied with a brandnew score, composed by Daan van den Hurk and performed by the Dutch Film Orchestra, conducted by Sander Vredenborg.
Before the intermission, three short comedies will be shown.
Zoé et le parapluie miraculeux (1913) from the Cinema’s First Nasty Women-collection.
Peg o’ the Mounted (1924) a rediscovered little gem featuring child star Baby Peggy, who is, dressed as an actual Canadian Mountie, tracing down a group of villains.
The Second Hundred Years (1927) with Laurel and Hardy who are trying to escape from prison. The more attempts they make, the bigger their problems become.
A program filled with laughter, suitable for the whole family!
