Symphony Orchestra Musica celebrates its 115th anniversary
Symphony Orchestra Musica conducted by Pim Cuijpers - Amare, concertzaal
Program Info: Symphony Orchestra Musica Pim Cuijpers, conductor Hawijch Elders, violin
Symphony Orchestra Musica – founded in 1910 – will have existed for no less than 115 years in 2025. One of the oldest orchestras in The Hague will kick off this festive year on Sunday afternoon, January 19, with an anniversary concert in Amare. There, Musica, led by conductor Pim Cuijpers, will play a beautiful program with works by Prokofiev, Korngold and Dvorák. For this concert, Musica collaborates with the young, award-winning violinist Hawijch Elders.
The program for the Lustrum concert is a real spectacle, with composers who all ventured into 'new worlds'. In their musical development and literally: Prokofiev, Korngold and Dvorák crossed the ocean and sought refuge - whether forced or not - in America.
Musica was founded in September 1910 by a number of amateur musicians and is one of the oldest amateur symphony orchestras in the Hofstad. The orchestra now consists of more than 70 Dutch and international amateur musicians who perform a concert series several times a year in The Hague and surrounding areas. Musica is also happy to offer young soloists the opportunity to work with an orchestra. For example, now well-known musicians such as Nicolas van Poucke, Lisa Jacobs, Nicola Meeuwsen, Laetitia Gerards, Jeannette van Schaik, Florian Verweij, Emma Roijackers and many others have collaborated with the orchestra in the past.
Program: Sergey Prokofiev - Parts from Suite No. 1 Cinderella Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin concerto in D, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) Antonín Dvorák - Symphony No. 9. From the New World
