Do you think that the brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière were aware that their cinematograph would cause a real tsunami in culture, giving rise to the image on the big screen and the entire film industry that is now loved by the whole world, but also creating space for genres such as film music? But before there was a demand for composers of this genre, tappers took a deserved place in the emerging cinemas, they were the first to provide sound for the film! The task was not easy at all, because at the same time the musicians had to react to the changing plot of the film on the screen and to the mood among the audience, and they did not have any scores!!! So, it was work on a living organism, requiring special skills and flexibility among musicians.
No wonder that the Philharmonic is the most appropriate place to present not only the history of cinema, but above all the musical development of the genre and the pianist's skill!
Silent cinema at the piano - a guarantee of time travel, against the background of a black and white screen accompanied by piano sounds. Our repertoire includes classics of silent cinema: outstanding films by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. These films entertain, move and teach to this day, and their audience is people of all ages!
Sebastian Łobos will take you on this journey. An outstanding young generation pianist and arranger. He excels in every genre of music, from classical to contemporary music, although apparently Ragtime flows in his veins! He is able to deftly incorporate quotes from masters such as Chopin and Debussy into his playing, which makes him unique among pianists. The best opportunity for him to demonstrate his skills is the role of a taper.
Charlie Chaplin - a legendary actor, director, producer, he can easily be called a legend of old Hollywood and a true icon of the emerging world cinema. But, do we know the story of that gentleman with the cane in the bowler hat?
We invite you to the Opole Philharmonic to delve into interesting stories about our friend from the black and white screen, whose roles and works entertain, move and teach fans of all ages to this day!
