Drei Haselnüsse Für Aschenbrödel (Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella)
Thüringen Philharmonie conducted by Markus Huber - Kulturhaus Gotha

Program Info:
Karel Svoboda - Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella
Original film with live orchestra

“The cheeks are stained with ash, but the chimney sweep is not...
A little hat with feathers, a crossbow over his shoulder, but he's not a hunter...
A silver knitted dress with a train to the ball, but she’s not a princess…”

For several generations, the Czech cult film “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” from 1973 is as much a part of Christmas as candlelight and the smell of fresh pine needles. This year too, a special wish will come true for the festival, because then the fairy tale can be experienced again in a brilliant cinema format. Also included: the music of Karel Svoboda, played live by the Thuringia Philharmonic Gotha-Eisenach and synchronized scene by scene with the romantic and funny adventures on the big screen.
Duration: approx. 1.5 hours

Christmas is the time of love, contemplation and family. But it is also the time of delicious scents such as mulled wine, gingerbread and cookies: for some, roasted almonds are a particular part of the Christmas season, for others it has to be hazelnuts - and exactly three of them! Fairytale and film enthusiasts' eyes should already be lighting up, as these three nuts are the fascinating magic utensils from one of the most beautiful fairytale films ever: The “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” [Tři oříšky pro Popelku] by Václav Vorlíček were among them absolute fairytale film classics, awaken childhood memories and make the hearts of young and old beat faster in the run-up to Christmas. The film was produced in 1973 by Czechoslovakia and the GDR and was a reinterpretation of the classic fairy tale “Cinderella” by the Brothers Grimm. The touching film music was composed by Karel Svoboda. This year we are bringing “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” from the living rooms to the Gotha Cultural Center and showing the fairy tale in a brilliant cinema format on the big screen. The Thuringia Philharmonic Gotha-Eisenach plays Svoboda's heavenly music synchronously with the film scenes, creating a unique work of art.
