The Snowman - A musical winter fairy tale youth concert
Thüringen Philharmonie - Kulturhaus Gotha
Program Info: Howard Blake - The Snowman
The short film "The Snowman", based on the children's book of the same name by Raymond Briggs, is one of the British Christmas classics - Howard Blake's music plays a significant role in the magical effect of this film, with the exception of a spoken introduction providing the entire acoustic design of the film . So Blake composed a light-footed orchestral score, which, in addition to delicate and voluptuous sounds, is also enriched with bossa nova sounds, a gigue of the dancing snowmen and a powerful march for the massive snowman. The little boy James builds a snowman that comes to life at night. Together with James, the snowman first explores his creator's childhood home, before a subsequent joyride on a motorcycle culminates in a sightseeing flight over the city with hundreds of snowmen. Once safely landed, the snowman leads James into a forest, which turns out to be Santa Claus's residence. After a lavish snowman party, James receives his gift: a scarf. As morning is already breaking, the snowman and his little friend head back home. James says goodbye to his big comrade and slips into bed. The snowman melted that day, but the scarf remains with the boy as a reminder of this eventful journey.
