Inspired by Tales from a Thousand and One Nights , this animated film is finally presented in the form of a film concert. Directed in 2006 by Michel Ocelot, author of Kirikou et la Sorcière , Azur et Asmar takes place in the Middle Ages, between Europe and the Arab world.
Azur the blond with blue eyes and Asmar the brunette with black eyes are both raised by Jenane, the second's mother, and they love each other like brothers. Brutally separated at the age of reason, the two boys will travel, keeping within themselves the imagination of the legends with which their nanny lulled them and the memory of a promise made to each other: that of freeing the Fairy. Jinns. Colorful and rich in adventures, this adventure film doubles as a humanist tale celebrating tolerance and openness to other cultures. The images of rare beauty and the shimmering music of Gabriel Yared, performed live by the Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra, make this film concert a simply magical moment, an encounter with all the richness of the other.
