South American debut in Ecuador
Cuenca Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tobias van de Locht - Basin (Südanden)
Program Info: For his South American debut, Tobias van de Locht has selected bright orchestral pieces with fiery Latin American rhythms: he introduces himself to the audience in Ecuador with his own Third Symphony, then pays homage to Gustav Holst, the creator of the planets, on his 150th birthday with the igniting ballet music from his Opera The Perfect Fool , brings another rhythmic hit to the stage with Howard Blake's First Symphony, then takes off with John Williams and his ET and finally conducts Kurt Weill's Second Symphony, which is full of tangos and Charlestons in the style of the 1930s . The Cuenca Symphony Orchestra is one of the leading orchestras in South America and has recorded, among other things, the nine symphonies of the Ecuadorian national composer Luis Humberto Salgado on CD.
