The Slapstick Saturday is the annual tribute to the great comedy artists of the silent film era. Not only will there be laughter, screeching, roaring, this evening also shows that comedy is a true art. This year's feature film is one of Buster Keaton's most iconic films: THE CAMERAMAN (1928). A film that was even used for years as a textbook example of how to write perfect comedy. It was the last film over which Keaton still had (largely) control, which gives the film a tragic place in film history.
Before the break, the audience can enjoy the first film released entirely under the direction of Keaton: ONE WEEK (1920). This film is not only a technical tour de force by Keaton himself, but the acrobatics of his co-star Sybil Seely are on par with his; Mabel Normand in SHOULD MEN WALK HOME? (1927) and a short film from the Nasty Women collection.
The films are accompanied live by Daan van den Hurk (piano), Meg Morley (piano), Bart Soeters (bass), Hanne Steffers (cellist) and Frank van der Star (drums).
This year the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven is the location for the Slapstick Saturday.
