Arseniy Trofim , piano - Moscow International Performing Arts Center, Schnittke Hall (New Hall)
Program Info: Silent films and live music. Modern taproom cinema hall Arseniy TROFIM , piano
“Modern Tapera Cinema Hall” is the author’s project of pianist and composer Arseny Trofim. A unique film concert that combines silent films and modern live music. Performing his own soundtrack to the film, Arseny Trofim opens up a new reality of old silent cinema and gives viewers a new perception of the great classics.
This evening you will see one of the best films of the brilliant Charlie Chaplin - “The Kid” (1921) - to the unique music of Arseny Trofim. "The Kid" became the first and best feature film directed by Chaplin. It starred five-year-old Jackie Coogan, whom Chaplin found in Los Angeles, where Jackie was performing with his father in vaudeville. It's the story of a child abandoned by his divorced mother (Edna Purviance), who hopes to give her son a better life by giving him a limousine. Unfortunately, the limousine is stolen and the child is thrown onto the street by robbers, where the Little Tramp finds him. After unsuccessful attempts to find new parents for the boy, the Little Tramp keeps him. He teaches the child everything he knows, from street lessons to table manners; From one unsuccessful adventure to another, he desperately fights to keep the boy with him.
Arseniy Trofim scores silent films from the classic masterpieces of Charlie Chaplin and Bastor Keaton to the avant-garde experiments of Rene Clair and Luis Buñuel. His music has given new life to fifty-two full-length and short films. "STK" is the world's first repertoire project dubbing silent films. Film concerts of the “Modern Tapper Cinema Hall” are held in the most authoritative and largest cinemas in Russia: “Khudozhestvenny” and “Pioneer”, the summer cinema “Museon” in Moscow, the House of Cinema in St. Petersburg.
Already in the first years of its active concert and educational activities (2008–2009), the project with the participation of Arseny Trofim and other composers revived the interest of completely different audiences in a new perception of the great classics. The touring activities of “STK”, having received high praise from film critics and journalists in Russia, France and Belarus, reached the international level. In 2011, the Russian film distribution company Interact released the first official release of the project - a DVD with Charlie Chaplin's film "The Circus" and new music for it. Arseny Trofim became the first Russian composer whose music for a Charlie Chaplin film was officially published. Also, this amazing work turned out to be the first official piano soundtrack for a full-length Chaplin film in the history of cinema. In January 2013, the Modern Tapper Cinema Hall held the first silent film and live music festival in the history of India and the state of Goa. The apogee of the project’s development and its worldwide recognition can be considered an invitation to the most authoritative silent film festival “ Del Cinema Mute " in Pordenone (Italy). In 2013, it was Arseny Trofim with the project “Modern Tapper Cinema Hall” and the film concert “Night Cabby” (dir. Georgy Tasin) who worthily represented Russia on the world stage.
