Program Info: John Williams is described as a “man of superlatives”. However, he is only known to a larger audience as the composer of some of the most famous film scores of our time. The fact that he can be counted among the most important composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, not only because of this, but also because of his impressive works for the concert hall, was reason enough to dedicate an entire symphony concert to him! His tuba concerto was commissioned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Boston Pops Orchestra. The combination of lyricism, agility, wit and emotion has aroused great admiration for the underrated solo instrument since its premiere!
