Considered the most successful marriage between drama and comedy in Chaplin's work, The Kid will be screened at La Filature during an exceptional film concert, with musicians from the Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra.
A major work of cinema, The Kid , written and directed by Charlie Chaplin in 1921, begins with the dramatic situation of an unmarried mother who abandons her child. He is taken in by Charlot, a wanderer with a big heart, who takes care of him as if he were his own son. Together, they discover, despite extreme poverty, the richness of mutual aid, perseverance and daily love. Their association allows them to lead a life made up of fights, escapes from the police and shared pancakes. The child breaks windows by throwing stones and his friend, a glazier, earns his living by repairing them behind him. Meanwhile, having become rich and famous, the child's mother regrets her actions and goes looking for him. Misunderstandings, twists and turns and intense passages punctuate this famous story. The emotion of the film reaches its peak when the child has to be taken to the orphanage...
