The only opera Gershwin wrote was Porgy and Bess , a work which condenses with rare joy influences as diverse as Jazz, Carmen Bizet's , Janáček's Jenůfa , the Negro-Spirituals and the style of popular songs prevalent in black communities from South Carolina. A year after the creation of his opera, Gershwin produced an Orchestral Suite that his brother – years later – would rename “Catfish Row”.
We also find Jazz from the pen of Duke Ellington who had fun exploring the magic of The Nutcracker , appropriating this famous music of Tchaikovsky by mixing it with the world of the Big Band.
The music of Catch me if you can is an ode to symphonic jazz. John Williams gives in to the pleasure of transforming one of the delicious pages of the film's music into a concerto for saxophone, an emblematic jazz instrument.
Finally, continuing a new tradition, this concert will offer a “mystery work”, an Invitation to travel.
