Program Info: Pianist Jean-François Groulx presents here a solo version of the most beautiful melodies of composer Ennio Morricone, known worldwide for his music for the films Once Upon a Time in the West , Once Upon a Time in America and The Mission , for example. Without straying from the original melodies, Jean-François Groulx will perform pieces with captivating atmospheres and lyricism, the harmonies of which he has revisited by adding his personal colours. This chronological foray into Ennio Morricone's repertoire from the 1960s is interspersed with anecdotes and some compositions of his own for which we recognition Morricone's great influence.
About Jean-François Groulx
With eight albums to his credit, Jean-François Groulx devotes himself mainly to jazz but also works in the fields of popular music and world music. In 1995, he won the Du Maurier Prize at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and in 2006, the André-Gagnon Prize, awarded by the SPACQ to the instrumental music composer of the year. Well known for his collaborations with Louise Forestier (1992-2006) and with Edgar Bori (since 2001), he was also noted as composer of the soundtrack for the film L'Erreur boréale by Richard Desjardins. Since 2012, he has been the official pianist for the show En direct de l'univers with France Beaudouin. He has maintained his creative direction in jazz music for several years and continues to climb the ladder of notoriety.
