14 December 2024 Firenze (Florence) (Italy)
The Snowman
Orchestra della Toscana conducted by Carlomoreno Volpini - Teatro Verdi
Program Info: Howard Blake - the Snowman
The ORT is fond, like its audience, of The Snowman, the animated film which for more than forty years has made the little ones dream and move the older ones. So much so that it is shown on the bill almost every two years, preparing for Christmas . This is the film adaptation of the illustrated book The Snowman (1978) by Raymond Briggs, which was shown (on the English channel Channel 4) for the first time on 26 December 1982 and has been broadcast every Christmas since then.
The short film tells the exciting story of a child (Giacomino) who builds a snowman during a Christmas Eve and of the friendship that is established between the two when - during the night - the snowman comes to life and accompanies him on a trip to meet Santa Claus. The images are accompanied by extraordinary descriptive music, which gave fame to Howard Blake , an English musician, appreciated pianist, arranger and composer of music for radio, television and cinema. Among the melodies, a singable and unforgettable musical theme stands out entitled Walking in the air .
