Author of the unforgettable Kirikou trilogy, Michel Ocelot signs with Azur et Asmar (2006) a new animation masterpiece which marked an entire generation. Inspired by the Tales of the Thousand and One Nights, Azur and Asmar addresses social issues such as social inequalities and the discovery of foreign cultures through the story of two foster brothers – Azur the blond with blue eyes and Asmar the dark-haired black eyes – raised by the same woman in a green and flowery country. Brutally separated by life at the end of childhood, they will both be driven by the desire to find the Fairy of the Djinns and will embark on an epic rich in lessons which will bring the two brothers together.
The original music by Gabriel Yared, specially rearranged by Robin Melchior for this format, will be performed by the Yellow Socks Orchestra in perfect synchronisation with the projection of the film on the big screen. Once upon a time, there was Azur, blond with blue eyes, son of the squire, and Asmar, dark-haired with black eyes, son of the nurse, who raised them like brothers, in a green and flowery country. Life brutally separates them. But Azur does not forget the companions of his childhood nor the fairy stories of his nurse, on the other side of the sea. When he grows up, he returns to the land of his dreams, in search of the Fairy of the Djinns. There he finds Asmar, also determined to find and win the fairy, braving all the dangers and spells of a universe of wonders.
