Silent Films - Live in Concert
Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden conducted by Laurent Zuffere - Halle Furns
Program Info: What do Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy have in common? That's right, they are all among the greatest film actors ever to appear in Hollywood. Reason enough for the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden to bring these three screen heroes together. Under the title “Silent Films – Live in Concert” three short films will be shown, for which the Chamber Philharmonic under the direction of Laurent Zufferey will play the film music live. First up are Laurel and Hardy (also known as Dick and Doof) with their silent film “Liberty” (in German: “The Thing with the Pants”), which, according to film critics, is said to contain some of their funniest moments. We then continue with the grandmaster “himself” – Charlie Chaplin and his film “The Rink”. As in many of his films, Chaplin also shows in “The Rink” his most famous character, the “Tramp”, who has a number of misfortunes through a series of coincidences. At the end of the evening, Laurel and Hardy come again with the film “Big Business”. Also produced as a silent film, this work also leaves plenty of space for music due to its construction and, together with the other works, offers the audience a first-class cinema evening.
