An expressionist silent film classic with live music – that’s what you can experience in the Big House. The silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari tells the story of the insane Dr. Caligari, who uses a somnambulist named Cesare to terrorize a small northern German town. Stéphane Fromageot, director of studies at Konzert und Theater St.Gallen, has composed music that, like the story, oscillates between reality and madness. Depending on the situation, late romantic sound passages alternate with atonal breaks, which underlines the visual language of the silent film. And the composer will also conduct the evening himself.
