Symphonic Concert
Bamberger Symphoniker conducted by Jakub Hrůša - Konzerthalle

Program Info:
Bamberger Symphoniker
Jakub Hrůša, conductor
Bomsori Kim, violin

“I love surprises and breaks with convention, as long as they are subtle.” When it comes to designing dramaturgically cleverly thought-out concert programs, Jakub Hrůša always turns out to be a creative mind and also likes to dare to experiment. Now he combines two profound musical creations: Charles Ive's famous work from 1908 revolves around the question of existence. Ultimately, it remains unanswered in the room, and the magical piece ends on the same note with which Shostakovich's Eleventh Symphony begins - so that the two compositions merge impressively into one another in our performance. The moving symphony is subtitled "The Year 1905" and refers to "Petersburg Bloody Sunday" - but the work also reflects the equally tragic events of the time it was written in 1957. Our chief conductor has selected the violin concerto by a composer who came from his hometown of Brno and had to flee into American exile: There Korngold kept himself afloat with film music that left its mark in his violin concerto - for which we welcome Bomsori Kim as a soloist. An exciting program full of hypnotic attraction that makes you think, but also touches your heart - especially thanks to the conducting of Jakub Hrůša, who said about his favorite recipe: »It is important to find a balance in which you are emotionally charged creates and at the same time respects the craft. That's when the most beautiful moments happen. And when the audience engages in this type of valuable interaction, there is little that stands in the way of satisfaction.«

Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
Charles Ives - ‘The unanswered question’
Dmitri Shostakovich - Symphony No. 11 in G minor op. 103, ‘The year 1905’
