Charlie Chaplin's acting performance, all the more admirable since few artists from silent films successfully migrated to talking cinema, explains why The Great Dictator has become such a classic today. His nerve, too, because it was necessary to make a satirical film featuring Hitler in 1940. But also his music: a real gem, composed by Chaplin himself! The score also incorporates classical pieces inspiring anthology scenes, with a shave punctuated by Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5 and the globe dance to the overture to Wagner's Lohengrin. Timothy Brock, who restored the film's music, takes the baton for this exceptional film concert.
