23 January 2025 Cannes (France)
Ibrahim Maalouf
Orchestre de Cannes conducted by Benjamin Levy - Palais des Festivals et des Congrès
Program Info: The trumpet is in the spotlight with Ibrahim Maalouf! An essential concerto in the instrument's repertoire, Hummel's work was composed in 1803 for Anton Waidinger, a trumpeter at the court of Vienna who, thanks to his newly developed keyed trumpet, achieved a new virtuosity for the time. Taken from his eponymous album, Red & Black light is a track composed by Ibrahim Maalouf, who has the “desire to bring jazz to all ears by ridding it of its elitist label”. The departure of the Tramp and the girl towards a new life in the final scene of the film Modern Times makes the soundtrack of Charlie Chaplin's film famous. It subsequently inspired lyrics, but it is today in a version for trumpet and orchestra that it is offered. A true sound odyssey composed in 2022 by the French Graziane Finzi, L' Existence du Possible offers a meditation on the origin of creation and the emergence of elementary forms of sound. In 1855, the young Bizet composed what was for him a “symphonic exercise”. Little did he know that, eighty years later, his work was created and never left the concert halls!
