22 December 2024 Cannes (France)
L’étrange Noël De Monsieur Jack (Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas)
Orchestre de Cannes conducted by Benjamin Levy - Palais des Festivals et des Congrès
Program Info: Danny Elfman - Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
The gothic universe of Tim Burton shines in this Nightmare Before Christmas , carried by the Cannes National Orchestra playing Danny Elfman's brilliant score, in the magical setting of a film concert.
Tired of Halloween pranks, Jack Skellington, King of the Pumpkins, decides to import the magic of Christmas into Halloween Town. But his joyful mission turns into a nightmare for good children...! Tim Burton's taste for the grotesque, an alloy of wonder and horror, inspired Danny Elfman to write one of his most brilliant scores. A timeless quality emanates from this music where numerous influences emerge: those of jazz and blues, Wagner, or great names in film music such as Bernard Herrmann, Erich Korngold or Max Steiner. Well versed in evoking images and atmospheres, Elfman uses a certain “medievalism” to shape, from the opening march, the frightening space of the city. Reassuring Christmas chimes, a quote from the apocalyptic Dies Irae and the atmosphere of an American nightclub from the 1950s then follow one another in a kaleidoscope that is as seductive as it is formidably effective.
