Koyaanisqatsi is the first film in the Qatsi trilogy by director Godfrey Reggio, for which the film music was composed by Philip Glass. Tonight the Philip Glass Ensemble, which was founded by Glass himself, will perform the soundtrack live to the film. Koyaanisqatsi is known for his pioneering use of time-lapse photography and slow-motion techniques to depict the frenetic pace of modern life and its impact on the natural world. Glass's music for the film is one of the great masterpieces of the eighties, a vast minimalist work with synthesizers, deep male voices and horns.
