Program Info: Under the title Cinema:Sound, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra takes up their long film music tradition and, together with Tomek Productions, brings a film music legend to Vienna every year to lead the orchestra through their sound worlds. On May 20, 2025, the celebrated Hollywood composer, conductor and pianist James Newton Howard will conduct the Vienna Symphony Orchestra for the first time.
James Newton Howard has created the soundtracks to blockbusters such as the Hunger Games film series, the Fantastic Beasts series, Maleficent , King Kong and Pretty Woman . Of particular note is his multiple collaborations with M. Night Shyamalan on films such as The Sixth Sense , Signs and The Village . In total, Howard has scored more than 120 films and has received several awards for his work.
James Newton Howard will present a selection of his outstanding film compositions as part of this special concert. A musical highlight that will delight film fans and music lovers alike.
