Sound of Scifi
Vantaan Pops Orchestra - Musiikkitalo Concert Hall
Program Info: The spotlight is on the new generation of film composers
Arrival, Alien, Moon. Sunshine, Escape, Gravity... The Vantaa Entertainment Orchestra's concert offers the audience a great selection of music from epic sci-fi movies. The new generation of visionary film composers shine in the spotlight.
Johann Johansson, Jerry Goldsmith, Clint Mansell. John Murphy, Max Richter, Steven Price. The Vantaa Entertainment Orchestra brings light to the darkness of October with atmospheric film music of a new generation of composers, combining different styles and sound worlds. Excerpts from the films will not be shown during the evening, but there will be an ensemble that is not only musically but also visually impressive.
"Traditional sci-fi films are largely based on superheroes. They are a bit like links moved into space. Newer films are psychologically deeper and more philosophical, which is also heard in their music. The music is more textural, more electronic and more experimental than before," describes Lauri Porra, artistic director of Vantaa Viihdeorkester.
While sci-fi films have always taken viewers to the future, the new generation of composers has offered new perspectives to numerous composers representing different genres. The music of sci-fi films has indeed inspired the creators of film music, classical music and orchestral music.
The program has been performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra at, among others, the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. At Musiikkitalo, the Vantaa entertainment orchestra is led by the LCO's chief conductor and artistic director Robert Ames.
