Program Info: Tonkünstler Orchestra Fabien Gabel, conductor Simone Lamsma, violin
Welcome, bienvenue, welcome: Fabien Gabel, the Tonkunstler's designated chief conductor, creates a beguiling sound bouquet for this concert with blossoms from Fin de Siècle, Art Nouveau and Viennese Modernism, which he particularly wants to cherish and nurture. How deeply rooted Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who was ostracised by the Nazis, was in the Viennese sound tradition is demonstrated by his fantasy about melodies by Johann Strauss Sohn as well as his famous violin concerto, which he wrote for Jascha Heifetz in the USA in 1947: voluptuous, capricious, grand. A bravura piece for the Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma – and an orchestral bravura piece also follows after the break, the suite from the ballet “Schlagobers” by Richard Strauss. All waltzes!
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - «History of Strauss» op. 21 Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) - Pause - Richard Strauss - Suite from the ballet «Schlagobers» op. 70
