Pioneers Of Cinema: Alice Guy & Louis Weber
Jorge Gil Zulueta, piano and Diana Valencia, violin - Teatro Campoamor, Calle Pelayo
Program Info: Revisiting and valuing silent films is always necessary. This is the premise established by composer and pianist Jorge Gil Zulueta, who returns to SACO to accompany with his music two centenary gems: Falling Leaves, by Alice Guy, and Shoes, by Louis Weber. Gil Zulueta has been adapting his compositions to great short films and silent films for several years, from the most popular and ingenious of Charles Chaplin or Buster Keaton to the exciting beginnings of the Lumière Brothers or the magician George Méliès, as well as musicalizing great productions of German expressionism or the beginnings of Hollywood. The composer considers that the most interesting thing about his work as a silent film pianist is “to discover (and make known) works, sometimes hidden, that mark the beginning of auteur cinema, social cinema and that were made by pioneering women who also approached the art of film. This is the case of Louis Weber or Alice Guy, among others.”
