José María Sánchez-Verdú - Nosferatu Friedrich WILHELM MURNAU : Nosferatu. A symphony of horror 1922
Murnau's vampire revisited An unforgettable classic of horror cinema, the Nosferatu that Friedrich Wilheim Murnau filmed in 1922 is not only a monumental reference of the genre, but a masterpiece that perfectly defines one of the most creative periods of European filmography, which coincides with the called German Expressionism , of which Murnau is a leading figure. In 2002, the Teatro de la Zarzuela and the Community of Madrid Orchestra commissioned José María Sánchez-Verdú to write a score to accompany the film. The Andalusian composer wrote a work for choir and orchestra, which includes some unusual instruments, such as the sax or the accordion. It was premiered by José Ramón Encinar in front of the groups of the Madrid community at the Teatro de la Zarzuela on April 26, 2003, with a success that twenty years later continues to be repeated every time it is offered.
