The Golden Age Of World Cinema. Ennio Morricone. Nino Rota. Michel Legrand
State Symphony Orchestra "New Russia" conducted by Arif Dadashev - Moscow State Academic Theater "Russian Song"

Program Info:
The future king of film music, Nino Rota, was born in 1911 in Milan. And already at the age of 12 he became a student at the Rome Conservatory. When he turned 15, he composed his debut opera, and two years later he graduated from the conservatory with honors.

Cinema entered Nino Rota’s life in 1933 completely unexpectedly. Being a serious composer, a professional who had received a fundamental musical education, he took on his first musical film work mainly out of curiosity and a desire to try his hand at a new genre.

His initial conviction that music should not be content with the role of a static illustration of the screen plot, but can act as an element of drama, to be the breath and pulse of the picture, grew and became stronger with each subsequent film. The best confirmation that he was on the right path was the fame and recognition that came to the composer after the films “The Road”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Rocco and His Brothers”, “The Sweet Life”, “The Godfather”. The most famous directors of the 50-70s considered it an honor to collaborate with Nino Rota: Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Franco Rossi, Damiano Damiani, Franco Zeffirelli, Francis Ford Coppola.

Ennio Morricone is the world's most famous film composer. As a film composer, he has been nominated for an Oscar five times, and in 2007 he received an Oscar for Outstanding Contribution to Cinema. In addition, in 1987, awards for the music for the film “The Untouchables.” he was awarded the Golden Globe and Grammy Among the films for which Morricone wrote music, the following should be especially noted: “A Fistful of Dollars”, “For a Few Dollars More”, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, “Once Upon a Time in the West”, “Once Upon a Time in America”, “The Mission” ", "Decameron", "Professional", "The Untouchables", the television series "Octopus".

Ennio Morricone's musical taste is very difficult to accurately describe. His arrangements have always been very diverse; in them you can hear classics, jazz, Italian folklore, avant-garde, and even rock and roll. Morricone liked to use a variety of instruments, from harmonicas and horns to electric guitars, but his signature style was the use of the female voice as an instrument, set off by lush orchestration.

Contrary to popular belief, he not only created soundtracks, he also wrote chamber instrumental music, with which he even toured Europe in 1985, personally conducting the orchestra at concerts.

Twice during his career, Ennio Morricone himself starred in films for which he wrote the music, and in 1995 a documentary was made about the maestro.
