Program Info: John Williams - E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
Director Steven Spielberg's heartwarming masterpiece, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, follows the moving story of a lost alien who befriends a ten-year-old boy named Elliott. Experience all the mystery and fun of their unforgettable adventure in the beloved movie that captivated audiences around the world while your St. Louis Symphony Orchestra performs John Williams’ Academy Award®-winning score live to film.
A few things to know: The iconic phrase "E.T. phone home" became synonymous with the film. However, the actual line spoken by the character is "E.T. home phone." The portrayal of E.T. was achieved through a combination of puppetry and animatronics. The puppetry was masterfully handled by expert puppeteers, including multiple little people, to create the endearing and lifelike movements of the alien character. The film's famous scene where E.T. is lured with a trail of candy popularized Reese's Pieces. After the success of the movie, sales of Reese's Pieces skyrocketed, marking one of the earliest instances of product placement in a major Hollywood film.
