15 April 2024 Warszawa (Warsaw) (Poland)
Timeless Film Festival: muzyka z filmu „Io”
Sinfonia Varsovia (Warsaw Philharmonic) conducted by Michał Klauza - Filharmonia Narodowa
Program Info: Paweł Mykietyn - Io
The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra will perform the award-winning music of the outstanding composer Paweł Mykietyn for the film Io directed by Jerzy Skolimowski. Mykietyn's works are an integral, organic part of the story about a donkey's lonely journey through Poland and Europe, which we watch from the perspective of a gentle animal. The masterpiece of the master of Polish cinema is a chamber donkey opera about cruelty, indifference, but also the human - and not only - desire for good. Skolimowski created a daring, surprising and visually innovative road movie. It is overcome by a cloven-hoofed explorer, ready to accept blows from the world, but also looking for warmth, security and understanding.
Mykietyn's music supports or counterpoints the unforgettable images from I o , combining violin instruments with frosty brass and electronics. For his soundtrack, the composer received, among others: Cannes Soundtrack Award, European Film Award for music for a full-length feature film and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award
Mykietyn spoke about the challenges associated with creating the soundscape for Io in an interview conducted by Rafał Zieliński: "When composing music for a film, I always ask what it is about, who is playing, who the hero is, what he is going through. Meanwhile, putting an animal in this role completely changes this perspective.” Adopting a non-human perspective resulted in non-obvious musical textures and mysterious sounds that we will hear live during a unique evening at the National Philharmonic.
