Heroes (for Primary and High School students)
State Orchestra of Athens - Megaron Athens Concert Hall

Program Info:
Beethoven and Superman, Napoleon and William Tellus, Romeo and Juliet. A wonderful world of heroes galloping wildly to the beat of the music. Legendary figures come to life through epic brass fanfare, majestic string melodies and iconic percussion patterns, as the symphony orchestra regroups to whisk us away on glorious musical adventures. Soldiers and knights, the professional heroes who throw themselves into battle, but also ordinary everyday people who triumph in the face of life's challenges, become the protagonists of an original narrative: the Athens State Orchestra lines up on the "battlefield" under the general command of the chief musician Elenis Kotsmanidou, in order to interpret selected passages of leading works, representative of the heroic theme. Among other things, they will hear the third movement from the famous "Heroic" Symphony that Beethoven originally dedicated to Napoleon, the "Encampment of the Swiss Soldiers" from the Introduction Rossini's Guglielmo Tellos , "Dance of the Knights" from Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet , Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" and John Williams' "Superman's Journey" from the score for the 1978 film of the same name .

Nadia Kontogeorgi, in the role of narrator, imaginatively interacts with the Orchestra and introduces us to the groups of instruments on stage, making sure that we don't miss anything from the magic of the music.
