Music of Anime
Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra conducted by Naohisa Furusawa - Thailand Cultural Centre, Main Hall

Program Info:
Japanese animated films, TV shows, and accompanying music are constantly gaining international popularity. Unlike Western pop songs, anime music consists of long, dramatic melodies combined with rapidly shifting chord progressions. This unique trait allows you to experience their orchestral renderings. Naohisa Furusawa is leading this performance. The Tokyo-born conductor has conducted Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Tokyo’s MAX Philharmonic Orchestra eight times. He is currently the Principal Conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).

Joe Hisaishi, the maestro of Japanese film scores, is at the forefront of anime music. He boasts a prolific career spanning over four decades, with over 100 film scores and solo albums. Since 1984, Hisaishi has worked with renowned director and animator Hayao Miyazaki, including works like "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle," which have garnered immense popularity and commercial success. Hisaishi has received numerous awards, including seven Japanese Academy Awards for Best Music and the Medal of Honour with a purple ribbon from the Japanese Government—his remarkable career is a testament to the quality of his scores and brilliant musical composition.

While Studio Ghibli is renowned for its enchanting melodies supporting the allure of its creations, other mainstream anime music from One Piece, Naruto, Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan carry layers of energy and depth. Kōhei Tanaka’s musical prowess infuses life into the adventures of the One Piece show. Attack on Titan’s soundtrack is intense and dramatic, adding layers of tension and excitement to the story. This concert celebrates Japanese culture, which the RBSO elegantly plays in a grand orchestral experience.
