Whiplash
Multiquarium Big Band of Benoît Sourisse and André Charlier - La Filature
Program Info: Justin Hurwitz - Whiplash
This film concert takes us to a jazz school in New York. The soundtrack of Damien Chazelle's film is performed live by the Multiquarium Big Band of Benoît Sourisse and André Charlier.
Whiplash transports the audience into the world – sometimes merciless – of a great New York jazz school. On the drums, nineteen-year-old Andrew dreams of becoming one of the best musicians of his generation. But competition is tough at the Manhattan Conservatory where he trains fiercely. His goal is to join the flagship orchestras, the one led by Terence Fletcher, a fierce and intractable teacher. When the latter finally spots the young talent, Andrew sets out... He then works under his direction, in the quest for excellence. It is this same search for accuracy, this same demand in execution that the live and synchronised interpretation of this original soundtrack offers. Whiplash , whose music is by Justin Hurwitz, reveals the art of concert cinema at its peak. An enchanting proposition, for all, amateurs and curious neophytes.
