I Virtuosi Italiani is an extremely versatile Italian chamber orchestra founded in Verona in 1989. The band has already recorded over a hundred albums, and the artists who have performed with them include Franc Battiat, Goran Bregović, Uri Caine, Chick Corea, Paolo Fresu, Ludovic Einaudi and Antonella Ruggiero. Among the soloists who often perform with "Virtuosos" is an outstanding flutist with whom the Italians will play at the National Forum of Music - Massimo Mercelli. He is known to the Polish audience primarily as the performer of Krzysztof Penderecki's works. The two artists were also friends.

Mercelli also has a special bond with Michael Nyman, an English composer associated with the minimal music movement. On May 19, 2019, at the famous La Scala, at a concert to celebrate his sixtieth birthday, the flutist premiered, next to Penderecki's work, the composer's No. 2 Concerto for Flute and Strings, dedicated to him. It will also be played in Wrocław. Another English work that the audience will hear that evening will be the cheerful Simple Symphony by one of the greatest composers of the 20th century - Benjamin Britten.

The concert will open with the performance of the four-part Suite No. 3 "Old Arias and Dances" by Ottorino Respighi, in which this outstanding symphonist was inspired by early music - lute works of the 16th and 17th centuries. It contains both studies of anonymous works and works by Jean-Baptiste Besard and Ludovico Roncalli. Then we will hear two songs by the legendary composer of film music, creator of the music for The Godfather and Federico Fellini's paintings - Nino Rota. The Concerto for Strings, written by him at the peak of popularity in Italy after the premiere of the film Eight and a Half , in many respects resembles his works composed for cinema. film music Strictly will be represented by a suite of dances from The Leopard directed by the famous Luchino Visconti.

Program:
Ottorino Respighi Ancient dances and airs for lute – III Suita
Nino Rota Concerto per archi, music from the films La Strada, Romeo and Juliet, Amarcord
