The Dortmund Philharmonic's New Year's Concert takes you to America and focuses on the entire American continent. South America will of course be represented by tango and its grandmaster Astor Piazolla, who will perform three world-famous pieces in versions for a traditional tango ensemble. With a surprising version of Gershwin's ever-young Rhapsody in Blue, we turn to New York, the "capital of the 20th century." The solo part will be performed by a particularly charismatic young musician, the Lithuanian accordionist Marytnas Levickis, who will also be heard in the tango ensemble. Further works by American composers round out the program.
