What began in 1974 is now entering its fifth decade in 2024: the collaboration between composer John Williams and director Steven Spielberg. The City Light Symphony Orchestra is taking this anniversary as an opportunity to honour the outstanding work of these two Hollywood giants through several concerts - including the live performance of “Jurassic Park”.
Thanks to the latest genetic technology, a team of researchers commissioned by multi-billionaire John Hammond (Sir Richard Attenborough) resurrects the dinosaurs. Hammond's plan: A spectacular theme park with the prehistoric giants. Welcome to Jurassic Park!
With “Jurassic Park” in 1993, director Steven Spielberg achieved a box office hit and paved the way for modern special effects cinema. The mixture of monster spectacle, science fiction and snappy dialogue not only achieved cult status, but has also developed into a successful franchise with six films to date.
The film music by composer John Williams is as iconic as the dinosaurs. At the beginning, his music emphasises the overwhelming grace of the resurrected prehistoric giants with noble brass and beautiful strings, before it announces the looming catastrophe with lots of percussion and rising dissonances after the initial nobility.
