The performance of the famous silent film "Der Rosenkavalier" by Robert Wiene from 1926 is a special listening and viewing experience: under the musical direction of the specialist for silent film music Frank Strobel, the Saxon State Orchestra accompanies the version of his well, which was specially adapted by Richard Strauss for this silent film most famous opera “Der Rosenkavalier”. The whole project was as unusual as it was innovative at the time: the transfer of an opera that lives from the sung word into a silent film; the synchronisation of live orchestra and film screening; The development of our own filmic dramaturgy with the necessary scenic additions and music were all challenges that had to be mastered. The reconstructed version of the film and music from 2006 succeeded in reviving the originally intended overall composition of moving images and orchestral tone poetry and harmoniously complementing the lost conclusion of the work.
