The Circus
Orchestre National de Lorraine conducted by William Le Sage - Salle Poirel

Program Info:
Charles Chaplin - The Circus

It's a misnomer to talk about a silent film, because while the spoken word may be absent, it's the music, omnipresent and played live, that single-handedly infuses the film with meaning and emotion!

Relive this experience with this ciné-concert devoted to one of Charlie Chaplin's great forgotten masterpieces, which won him his first Oscar. In The Circus (1928), in order to escape being falsely accused of being a pickpocket at a funfair, Charlie takes refuge in a circus. His increasingly comical blunders, such as his budding love for the director's daughter, soon make him the main attraction, unbeknownst to him.

Combining Chaplin's most comic inventions with his incomparable grace and lightness in expressing the purest of feelings, The Circus is a unique moment of laughter and emotion, made even more sublime by the music.
