Program Info:
Cinema and theater music accompanied the entire creative life of Dmitry Dmitrievich Shostakovich. We know him as the author of great symphonic works, the author of intimate and poignant chamber opuses, and also as the author of film music. Shostakovich began as a silent film performer while still a student at the conservatory, and the last film for which he wrote music was released in 1977. Many numbers from film scores became hits during the composer’s lifetime; they are loved and recognized by listeners today.
