Film music for "The Adventures of Prince Achmed"
MDR-Sinfonieorchester conducted by Frank Strobel - Congress Centrum
Program Info: Wolfgang Zeller - The Adventures of Prince Achmed
"The Adventures of Prince Achmed" was the first full-length animated film in history. The silhouette artist Lotte Reiniger worked for three years on the production of the silhouette film with a team that included the painter and experimental film-maker Walther Ruttmann. The result was a timelessly beautiful handcrafted film with around 100,000 individual images. He tells of the son of the caliph of Baghdad, Prince Achmed, who gets caught up in all sorts of adventures: he is lured onto a flying horse, which flies with him to the island of Wak-Wak. There he falls in love with the beautiful Pari Banu, and abductions, misunderstandings, many fights against magicians and evil spirits follow, until everything ends well in the end. Achmed is supported by Aladdin and his magic lamp.
