Program Info:
Nordic Chamber Orchestra Dalasinfoniettan
Karen Kamensek, conductor
Clara Saitkoulov, violin

Welcome to a concert filled with magic, heart and pain when the Dalasinfonietta once again teams up with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra. Led by acclaimed conductor, also Grammy winner, Karen Kamensek – who in 2022/2023 premiered no less than nine works on concert hall stages as in opera houses and has been invited back to the BBC Proms – brings you the opportunity to be enchanted by three masterpieces.

With its mesmerising beauty and evocative timbres, Jennifer Higdon's Blue Cathedral takes you on a captivating and evocative journey through a colourful sounding cathedral. Its atmospheric and deeply personal sounds really touch the soul deep down! In Erich Wolfgang Korngold's violin concerto, you get to experience the magic of classical music when it meets the intensity of film music. After seven years in exile in America where Korngold worked as a film score composer (which rewarded him with, among other things, two Oscar statuettes), he longed to return to Western art music. This violin concerto is the first major work with a widened palette in which Korngold let borrowed grand melodies meet newly written colourful material. The result is an enormously beautiful work of soaring virtuosity that is often cited as one of the great violin concertos of the 20th century, performed here by Clara Saitkoulov – a young, multiple award-winning violinist who is one of the most expressive and dazzling of her generation.

Last but not least – a world famous ballet piece that takes you to a colourful world of Russian folklore and living puppets. Igor Stravinsky's Petrushka takes place in the 1830s on a snowy winter day, at an amusement park in Saint Petersburg, where one of the attractions is a traditional Russian puppet show. Three dolls appear: a morian, a ballerina and the gloomy and pathetic Petrushka who is said to symbolise the Russian people in the hands of the Tsar.

Jennifer Hidgon - Blue Cathedral
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin concert D-Dur, op.35: the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
Igor Stravinskij - Petrusjka
