Trumpet in the Cinema
Orkiestra Filharmonii Gorzowskiej conducted by Rafał Jacek Delekta - Filharmonia Gorzowska
Program Info: Gorzów Philharmonic Orchestra Rafał Jacek Delekta / conductor Romain Leleu / trumpet
Music is for everyone. This motto gave direction to the entire work of Zoltán Kodály, known for his extensive knowledge of the folk music of his Hungarian homeland and for developing an innovative method of teaching singing. His Dances are based on melodies that were sung and danced to in every village in Hungary a hundred years ago. The influence of these compositions on masters such as Béla Bartók, and through him on world art, remains invaluable. Thanks to him, what was locally Hungarian penetrated the style of John Williams, Witold Lutosławski and many others.
Today, folk culture is displaced by global culture, but popular melodies still retain their function. Film music, known and liked by audiences all over the world, plays an important role. The French trumpeter Romain Leleu, balancing on the borderline between classical and jazz, noticed this process and devoted himself to popularising film music. His arrangements show cinema classics in an original sound version for trumpet and orchestra. Some of them appeared in 2022 on the album Move : The Trumpet As a Movie Star , recorded together with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker orchestra.
