The Kid in concert
Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo conducted by Frank Strobel - Salle Garnier – Opéra de Monte-Carlo
Program Info: Charles Chaplin - the Kid
The silent tragicomedy The Kid (1921) - also known in Germany as Der Vagabond und das Kind - was Chaplin's first feature film as a director. Edna Purviance and Jackie Coogan also star alongside Charlie Chaplin. The film is about a tramp who finds and raises a young child. Due to external circumstances, however, the intimate relationship between the two is in danger. The film combines comedy with social drama, which was almost unique at the time. In 1971, half a century after the film's release, Chaplin, now in his 80s, composed the score for The Kid , cutting out some scenes he felt were too sentimental. " The Kid " is still one of Chaplin's most famous works.
